WeChat Pay

Integrated into WeChat, the super-app used by everyone in China. Scan QR codes to pay at shops, restaurants, and more.

  • Setup: Link bank card in WeChat "Me" → "Payments"
  • Accepts: Most merchants, small shops, restaurants

Alipay

Alibaba's payment platform with broader merchant acceptance. Also handles transfers, bills, and investments.

  • Setup: Download app, register with passport
  • Accepts: Most merchants, online shopping, utilities

Cash & Exchange

While digital payments dominate, always carry some cash for emergencies. ATMs are widely available.

  • ATM Network

    China Construction Bank, Industrial & Commercial Bank (ICBC), Agricultural Bank - most accept international cards

  • Currency Exchange

    Available at airports, banks, and specialized exchange offices (forex)

Payment Tips

    Try to link your international card to Alipay before arriving if possible
